Construction Close To Finishing Up!

They've been working what seems like 24/7 on the new athletic facility and student center here on campus. It's been fun to watch as the finishing touches are going on-sidewalks, ornamental features. The student center is going to be amazing, featuring a main dining area that they say is going to be a like a fancy Las Vegas buffet, a sports bar themed restaurant, amphitheatre, meeting rooms, student grocery store, banquet halls and a huge technology center.

The new end zone project in athletics will double our already great space for athletic academic support, as well as house a state-of-the-art stadium style classroom for video review and a hospitality area for team, alumni and donor functions.

Both facilities should open right around the first of August!

Superb Staff-Matt Hoover, Sports Information!

Alright, I've gotten caught up in the Euro's and was on hiatus until Germany got the big win yesterday-but wanted to share with you another outstanding person who makes our program so special, Matt Hoover!

Matt is our Sports Information Director and is one of the best in the country. I can't think of another program that has someone as talented and driven as Matt. If you just go to our website you'll see one of the most accurate and up to date soccer pages around. Everyday Matt is looking for different angles to pitch stories to local and national media. This summer alone we've seen at least 6 different articles on our girls in their local media publications.

Matt is also a master of design and does some unbelievable work with photos and materials for our program-his media guides, game day programs and photo layouts on the web are second to none. I cannot wait to see our media guide for this upcoming fall as Matt came up with this whole creative angle that is going to look amazing.

Needless to say we're very lucky to have Matt here with TCU Soccer, as he certainly puts us on a different level!

Just jump on the website and take a look: http://www.redbullxfighters.com/ .This is the only stop in the US so I'm looking forward to a great show!

TCU Soccer Get's National TV Exposure!

Last year we played one game on national television and it was just announced that the mtn (the official television station of the Mountain West Conference) will be going live on DirectTV this fall. As one of only 2 conferences to have it's own television station in the country, our exposure is great. Last year saw 10 Mountain West Conference matches aired live. As soon as we get more details we'll pass them, but know come August you'll be able to catch several TCU Soccer matches in your home town!

Euro 2008 Continues as Camps Begin!

Things are definitely a little hectic right now as we kicked off another summer of camps here at TCU. We're having fun, but it certainly is crazy!

Trying to catch all of the Euro games as much as possible. I was actually born in Germany, so I make sure not to miss any of those games. Enjoyed the Spain match yesterday and see them as the early team to beat. Will be interesting as the second round of games get kicked off today!

Nguyen Picks Up Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar Honor!

Sophomore midfielder Michelle Nguyen has been named an Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholar.

The Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars Awards honor undergraduate students of color who excel both academically and athletically.

The awards were inspired by tennis legend Arthur Ashe Jr.'s commitment to education, as well as his love for the game of tennis. In addition to their athletic ability, Arthur Ashe Jr. Sports Scholars must exhibit academic excellence and community activism.

Nguyen, a fourth-team choice in women's soccer, led the MWC in conference matches with three assists and 0.43 assists per contest. She was fifth in league play with three goals and 1.29 points per match. Nguyen had two assists, including the match-winner, in a victory over No. 22 Utah. She also scored the game-winning goal against Texas Tech. Overall, she posted five goals and six assists on the year and was named to Top Drawer Soccer's Women's College Team of the Week following her two goal effort against Air Force.

Lizzy Karoly's Iceland Adventures!

Just got an email from Lizzy Karoly yesterday, saying her experience in Iceland for the summer is going well. The chance to play internationally in a different league is certainly an experience she is going to remember. Here's a picture of Lizzy from one of the most beautiful landmarks in the world, Gulfoos Waterfall. This is something you need to see, it is absolutely amazing. On a lighter note Lizzy has scored again over there, notching a goal versus the top team in the league. It's her third goal in four games, and a great sign of things to come.

Here's also an article from a local San Diego website on Lizzy: http://soccer.xksandiego.com/news.php?viewStory=380

NEW HOME FOR TCU SOCCER ON HORIZON

Just got yesterday the architect renderings for what will become the new home for TCU Soccer in the near future. The soon to be constructed state of the art building will include it's own weight room, athletic training facility with a swim-max pool, a student-athlete lounge, equipment facilities, brand-new locker room, a team meeting room and coaches offices. Overall, it's an $18 million facility. It's going to be first class and to actually have the renderings now just shows how beautiful it's going to be. I'll definitely be keeping you posted on the progress!

Catching up with Katie Taylor

Still recovering from a weekend away and saw this interview of Katie Taylor, our freshman center back from San Diego. Matt Hoover who we'll share more about in the upcoming days conducted the article for gofrogs.com

After sitting out almost all of last fall, how excited are you for this upcoming season?
"After sitting out, I am extremely excited for this upcoming season. I think we are going to do things that haven't happened yet at TCU."

What do you expect this season from the team?
"This season we have set some very important goals. One of them is to win all our home games. Really, we have to come out mentally prepared not only on the field, but also off it. We have to make sure all of us are making the right decisions that will help out the team."

What are your goals for the upcoming season, both individually and for the team?
"One of my goals is to be more of a leader in the back this season. I want the team to be able to look to me for answers if things aren't going the right way. As a team, we are making very good progress with our team chemistry. We are becoming very tight."

What do you like to do away from the playing field?
"I really like to help out at Kinder Frogs. I usually work with the pre-kindergarten kids that are three to five years old. I also like to go to Baptist church on Sundays."

You just talked about the Kinder Frogs, have the kids taught you anything?
"It's amazing how much they have taught me. Some of them communicate through sign language and from working with them I have learned a lot. By just working with them I have seen a couple of them grow up so much. It really is a great place and I wish I could get more people involved because they really do brighten your day."

Who is you favorite soccer player and why?
"I don't really have a favorite player, however there are two women I want to pattern my game like in Julie Foudy and Michelle Akers. I want to have the leadership of Foudy by being able to settle down the girls and get everyone back on the same page and the intensity of Akers because that woman is a train."

What is the biggest difference between Fort Worth and California?
"The biggest difference between Fort Worth and California would have to be the weather. It can be a beautiful day in Fort Worth and then in ten minutes clouds can roll in and it starts raining. One other thing is that the people in Fort Worth are a lot more down to earth. The southern hospitality is really something nice."

If you could play any sport other then soccer, what would it be and why?
"Probably football, but really it would be basketball. I used to play, but when I got to high school both soccer and basketball were during same season and my parents wouldn't allow me to play both."
