ABC Show The Deep End filmed in the metroplex

The Deep End, which is about first-year lawyers at a firm in the midst of a power struggle, stars some familiar actors, such as Billy Zane and Clancy Brown. But its biggest acting challenge may be getting the Fort Worth-Dallas area to stand in for Los Angeles.

After ABC gave that version the green light, production moved to Fort Worth-Dallas and the Studios, where local craft workers re-created the original set. Although exteriors are a little more tricky, a show spokeswoman said that interiors of Fort Worth restaurants and bars are similar enough to Los Angeles establishments to pass for L.A., and that even portions of the skyline are similar. Show producer Garry Brown, who was also instrumental in two seasons of Prison Break shooting in Fort Worth-Dallas and who has a local industry history that dates toWalker, Texas Ranger, is the North Texas link. Hudgins has praised local crews and lobbied the Texas Legislature for financial incentives for TV producers and filmmakers to work here. (Another upcoming show, Fox’s cop comedy-drama Code 58, will also film in Fort Worth-Dallas.)

Home away from home

The actors and director Busfield sound pretty happy about being here.

"My great-grandfather was the sheriff of Tarrant County in the late 1800s up to 1926," he tells a couple of local reporters during a break. "My grandmother is from out in the, I guess it was the Saginaw area, out where the Bell Helicopter factories used to be." Busfield also has family connections in Fort Worth-Dallas — and his aunt and cousin are on set with him on this day.

Baseball Ranked #11 To Start The Season

The TCU Horned Frog baseball team is ranked No. 11 in the Baseball America pre-season poll that was released Wednesday. The ranking is the highest-ever in a pre-season poll in program history. TCU is coming off its first-ever NCAA Super Regional appearance in 2009.

After finishing the 2009 season ranked as high as No. 11, the Horned Frogs are poised for another successful season under the guidance of head coach Jim Schlossnagle and staff. The squad returns 18 letterwinners from last year's 40-18 team and brought in the nation's fourth-ranked recruiting class. All-conference members Bryan Holaday, Taylor Featherston and Trent Appleby anchor the Frogs' roster.

Pitching should be one of the strengths of the squad as they return 10 pitchers from a year ago and welcome five more talented arms. In the field, the Frogs will have to replace three of the four starting infielders, but return a strong nucleus of athletes who have been in the program for a number of years. Twelve members from the 2009 roster return and five more are entering their first year of college ball.

TCU has been prominent in the pre-season rankings thus far, having been ranked No. 15 by Collegiate Baseball and No. 19 by Ping!Baseball.com.

The Frogs will open the 2010 season at home on Feb. 19 against 2009 NCAA Regional qualifier, Sam Houston State. First pitch for the 2010 season-opener is set for 6:30 p.m. at Lupton Stadium.

CONSTRUCTION UPDATE!

Lots of things are going on here at TCU as the spring semester of 2010 starts up. The team is back on the field working hard in our off-season conditioning program and we will start spring practice in a little over three weeks. There is also a lot going on at our field on the construction side of things. In December, ground was broken on the new Jane Justin Fieldhouse at Garvey-Rosenthal Soccer Stadium. The Jane Justing Fieldhouse will be approximately 5,000 square feet and include home and visitor locker rooms, an officials locker room, a training room, offices, a lounge area and a wrap-around raised viewing terrace.

We are incredibly excited about this new addition to our stadium! Here are some pictures of the current construction:

The completion date of the Jane Justin Fieldhouse is targeted for July 2010.

Football named Top 10 program of the Decade

ESPN.com has ranked TCU as the nation's 10th-best football program for the decade of the 2000s.
TCU posted seven seasons of at least 10 wins from 2000-09. Included in that stretch were five campaigns with at least 11 victories, including a 12-0 mark and No. 3 ranking for the 2009 regular season. The Horned Frogs capped the decade by earning a trip to their first BCS game.

TCU's 95-29 (.766) won-loss record for the 2000s ranks seventh nationally.

TCU won four conference championships in three different leagues (WAC, 2000; Conference USA, 2002; Mountain West, 2005 and 2009).

Gary Patterson was named TCU's head coach prior to the 2000 Mobile Alabama Bowl. He is a three-time conference coach of the year and the consensus 2009 National Coach of the Year.

The Horned Frogs' decade began with LaDainian Tomlinson leading the country in rushing en route to the Doak Walker Award as the nation's top running back. TCU closed the 2000s with defensive end Jerry Hughes becoming a two-time consensus All-American and the 2009 recipient of the Lott Trophy and Ted Hendricks Award.

Lady Frogs Basketball Nationally Ranked

The TCU women’s basketball team made its first appearance of the season in the ESPN/USA Today coaches’ poll Tuesday, coming in at No. 24. The Frogs were ranked No. 23 in Monday’s updated Associated Press Top 25 rankings.

This season marks the first time that TCU has been ranked in both major national polls this late in a season since 2003-04, when the squad kept itself in the rankings each week throughout the season.

TCU, 13-4 overall and 3-1 in the Mountain West Conference, made its first appearance in the coaches’ poll since it was rated 24th on Dec. 16, 2008. The Lady Frogs reached a high position of 22nd during the 2008-09 season. The squad collected 52 points Tuesday, which fell just ahead of Kentucky at No. 25 (46 points) and behind 24th-ranked Texas (89 points).

Spring Conditioning Starts Up!

Yesterday saw the beginning of our spring training with an intense day of conditioning. The day consisted of 300 yard shuttles, a push up max, and some technical work. The shuttles were both a mental and physical challenge for the team and I felt we responded well. We've got a lot of room to improve as a team with our overall fitness, but Chelsea Cody and newcomer Brittany Slyman really did a great job in leading the pack yesterday.

We finished up with about 20 minutes of general technical work with the ball and that was very encouraging-especially since all of the girls legs felt like jello.

TCU was recently recognized for the fourth-consecutive year with the NSCAA Team Academic Award

The TCU women's soccer program has not only produced on the field the last few seasons, but also in the classroom.

The women's soccer program was recently recognized for the fourth-consecutive year with the NSCAA Team Academic Award. To be eligible for the NSCAA Team Academic Award a team must have a team GPA of at least 3.0 for the 2008-09 academic year.

"There is no secret as to why our women's soccer team has been successful over the last four years. Head Coach Dan Abdalla and his staff understand the true concept of the student-athlete and there is a strong expectation for the team to excel in the classroom," said Chris Uchacz, director of athletic academic services. "I am very proud of the academic accomplishments of the women's soccer program as they all work hard both on and off the field".

Earlier this winter, senior Lizzy Karoly and junior Jackie Torda were honored by the NSCAA as members of the honorable mention NSCAA Division I Scholar All-South Region team.

Karoly, who earlier this fall earned second-team CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District honors, scored five goals, while dishing out one assist in 2009 to become TCU's all-time leader in goals scored for a career. The senior's selection to the All-District VI Team earlier this year marked the second-consecutive season in which she has earned Academic All-District accolades.

Torda, who was named second team all-conference this fall, netted four goals on the season, while dishing out one assist.

2 New Players Join Horned Frogs this Spring

We're excited to have 2 new players joining us this spring-Kim Castleberry and Brittany Slyman. Both are extremely dynamic attacking players that will make an immediate impact. Can't wait to get both of them in Purple on January 11th!

Congrats Alumni Caroline Starns!

This holiday season brought a special Christmas gift for 2008 Horned Frog Soccer Alum Caroline Starns as her longtime boyfriend (and former TCU Baseball Player) Dillion Farish proposed.
