Hello, Hello, Hello!
Looks like I get to run things on here for a few days because the Horned Frogs are heading down to Austin.
The team is leaving tonight after practice for the LoneStar College Showcase in Austin/Round Rock, Texas. There are going to be 18 colleges there to play and unfortunately 2 of those teams have to face us. :0)
TCU will play University of Miami, FL at 10:00 am and then Oklahoma University at 4:00 pm tomorrow afternoon. The players are really excited because they'll get a chance to tryout some new formations and positions....and of course GET TO COMPETE IN GAMES!!
There won't just be soccer games that the girls are battling to win; the bus ride down there will involve an intense and challenging battle between the Purple and White teams of........... PICTIONARY!!!
That's right, the next challenge in TCU's annual Champions League competition is none other than the classic game of Pictionary. This is a time when the girls get separated from the women. Hahaha! Actually, its a whole lot of fun! Last year we had a very competitive game of Catch Phrase that produced tons of laughs! (Especially because Kaylie Garcia would just smile, laugh uncontrollably, and wasn't able to come up with any hints to help her team out.) Tons of fun for all!
Stay tuned to find out how the weekend road trip turns out!!
-ANJ (This is how Dan would spell my name on the line up board for every game, and my teammates loved it! ......the name has stuck.)
Welcome to the world of TCU Women's Soccer ... get everything you need to know about the Horned Frogs on and off the field! Meet the coaches and players ... find out about camps/clinics ... watch match highlights and video spots ... and keep informed on soccer news from around the world.

Tiger Comes Back to Funkytown
Good afternoon bloggers!
It's Angie again, former horned frog player now director of operations here at TCU. Today for lunch we walked over to our usual hangout, Buffalo Bros. Its right on campus and has the best salads ever!! Anyways.... we were waiting for our food when this hilarious commercial came on:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=24HyZfGwPnk
Dan said it was filmed right here at the Colonial Country Club down the road. Of course, I was hesitant to believe him so I did what any person in doubt would do.... I googled it!
Turns out its true! Tiger was here in November filming the commercial. Every year Fort Worth hosts the Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial. The commercial aired right before his first tee shot in his opening match at the Accenture Match Play Championship on the Golf Channel.
Other pro golfers in the commercial include Stewart Cink, Anthony Kim, Justin Leonard, Carl Petterssen and Masters champ Trevor Immelman. Its pretty neat to know that all of these great athletes were just down the street only a few months ago and that Michelle (the assistant coach) and I were probably running right by the Colonial when they were filming!

Purple Team Takes 5-0 Spring Lead With Dodgeball Win Today
In an epic battle of 8v8 dodgeball, the Purple Team took a commanding 5-0 lead in annual Purple/White Spring Competition. The Dodgeball game went down to the wire as the purple team was able to kill the clock to win 2-1.
Not sure who the MVP's were, but Jenna Hayes made a valiant effort in her comeback for the white team.
Purple captain Lizzy Karoly is going for an unprecedented 3rd straight Purple/White Championship.

Associate Head Coach Mark Plakorus
I'm excited that tomorrow TCU Athletics will officially name Mark Plakorus as an Associate Head Coach for TCU Soccer. Mark has been such an integral part of our success over the past four years, that the change in title is well over due. His commitment to our student-athletes and the success of our team is tremendous. He's not only a great coach, but even more important a great teacher. Few people commit themselves to anything as greatly as Mark has committed himself to our program and for that I'm greatly indebted.
Congratulations Mark, this is well deserved and know how much you are valued and appreciated in our program as coach, teacher and friend!

USA 2-Mexico 0
The US got off to a great start in the first game of the final phase of 2010 World Cup Qualifying, with a 2-0 win in Columbus, Oh last night. I remember back in the 80's and early 90's when we'd struggle just to compete against Mexico and now we haven't lost in 10 games here on US Soil.
I love the fact the US Soccer now also plays these games in places like Columbus or Boston, where Mexico has to deal with a very pro US crowd and tough elements. Not too long ago these games were played in Los Angeles or Houston with great passionate crowds, but not any real home field advantage.
The game last not sold out in 90 minutes when tickets went on sale, and the weather was brisk and windy! Congrats go out to Michael Bradley who picked up both of the goals.
Congrats to the US Squad and my friend US Captain Carlos Bocanegra (who has been on staff at our summer camps in the past) on a great win! Can't wait for the rematch in Mexico.

Team Starts Off Spring Season With Nice Win
This past Sunday we got our spring season off on the right foot, with a convincing win over nationally ranked Navarro Junior College. With 6 returning starters not playing, the remainder of the team got off to a great start scoring 5 goals in the first 45 minutes. Lizzy Karoly and Jordan Calhoun both looked extremely sharp going to goal, with Kaylie Garcia and Jackie Torda providing dangerous support from the midfield.
We used the match from a training standpoint, so ended up playing 3-45 minute periods to make sure everyone on the roster got a good solid 45-90 minutes-except for Jackie Torda and Chelsea Wilgenburg who also picked up a bit of extra time. Nikki Wilbur also did a great job as both a center back and defensive mid.
In goal Lauren Wysoski picked up her first collegiate start and a shutout for all 135 minutes!
Next up will be Miami and Oklahoma when we travel down Austin to compete in the Lonestar Showcase.

Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo-Fun For the Whole Family!
This weekend brings to an end the annual Fort Worth Stock Show and Rodeo. It's one of the largest rodeo's in the country and a yearly family favorite here in Fort Worth. There's the main attraction-the Rodeo, the stock show halls that feature all sorts of animals for show, the exhibit hall-where everyone can get there newest boots and cowboy hats, plus my son's favorite the carnival area.
The event itself has been taking place since 1896 and truly is a glimpse into traditional Texas life. Our team especially likes all of the concerts that come to town along with it at Billy Bobs, the worlds largest honky tonk-that means concert hall here in Texas!

Team Honors Invidiuals At Awards Banquet
We held our Awards banquet this weekend in the Meyer-Martin Athletic Complex. What a great set up and wonderful night.
We posted a program-best 14-4-2 record, including a 4-2-1 MWC record.
Overall, TCU climbed as high as No. 24 in the nation during the year, while placing three student-athletes on the all-conference squad, including the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year Jordan Calhoun.
On Friday, Calhoun, a 2008 Freshman All-American, took home three honors as she was named Newcomer of the Year, Co-Offensive MVP and received the Co-Citius, Altius, Forti award (Which is our strength and conditioning award) .
Fellow forward, Lizzy Karoly also piled up the honors as she collected the Citius, Altius, Forti award, as well as the Co-Offensive MVP award.
Sophomore Julia Slater was honored as the top GPA for both the spring and fall 08 semesters.
Sophomore Cheryl Martin was honored with Defensive MVP honors, while freshman Chelsey Wilgenburg earned the Addy award-given out to the player who demonstrates the most intangibles and is named after the TCU Mascot "Addy".
Finally, sophomore goalkeeper Kelsey Walters garnered the Purple Heart award-after every game the team votes on a purple heart winner and the player with the most at the end of season keeps the plaque.
