CALHOUN EARNS ALL-AMERICAN HONORS

Jordan Calhoun was honored on Thursday by Soccer Buzz Magazine as a second-team Freshman All-America honoree.

Calhoun, who was named Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year in 2008, was also named second-team All-Central Region and All-Freshman Central Region by Soccer Buzz on Thursday. By being named to the All-America team, Calhoun becomes the women's soccer program's first All-America honoree and first all-region selection.

The Norman, Okla., native, who was selected to Top Drawer Soccer's second-team All-Rookie squad earlier this winter, netted 15 goals during the 2008 season, while dishing out two assists. With her 15 goals, the first-team all-conference selection, who became TCU's all-time leader in goals scored during a single-season, helped lead the Horned Frogs to a 14-4-2 record and season-high national ranking of No. 28.

In 2008, Soccer News Net recognized Calhoun as one of the top-32 players in the nation. She was recently a finalist for the Soccer News Net Player of the Year Award.

Overall, Calhoun netted six game-winning goals on the season, while also scoring the equalizing goal in matches against Texas, Texas Tech and Ole Miss. Finally, she finished the 2008 season ranked first in the Mountain West Conference in points, points per game, goals, goals per game and game-winning goals during her freshman campaign.

Annual Soccer vs Tennis Match!

One of the neat traditions our girls have within our program is an annual pickup game with the men's tennis team that they organize. Our men's tennis team is consistently ranked as one of the top programs in the country and they've got a ton of international guys from all over the place like Romania, Tunisia, South Africa. The teams both become the rooting and chanting sections at each other's matches.

So here's some pictures from the annual match they just forwarded to me.

A New Horizon in 2008

As posted from Matt Hoover on Gofrogs.com

Lizzy Karoly offers her insight into the 2008 women's soccer season this week.
Jan. 16, 2009

FORT WORTH, Texas - Throughout the next few months, selected members of the women's soccer program will give fans an exclusive look into one of the most successful seasons in program history.

Overall, the Horned Frogs ended the 2008 season with a 14-4-2 record, which is the best record in program history. TCU also climbed as high as No. 24 in the nation during the year, while placing three student-athletes on the all-conference squad, including the Mountain West Conference Freshman of the Year Jordan Calhoun.

In this week's installment, junior Lizzy Karoly offers her insight into this fall.
I look back on the 2008 season not only as a very successful season, but also as a reminder about the goals we are still striving to accomplish. It was by far the best season our team has had since I have been here. I think 2008 showed how much heart and passion we have as a team. Some of the best moments for me were when time-after-time we would be down a goal or two, but were able to come back and win the game.

I recently realized that I am the old lady on the team and it is pretty scary to think that I am the oldest. I like to think that with my age comes lots of experience and wisdom.

This spring, we will have many purple and white competitions. I have hand picked my purple team. I have lots of experience in these competitions and I am currently undefeated in them, so my team will not accept defeat. Hopefully, Chelsey Wilgenburg and Katie Runyon can score us some points in the mile run, while Jackie Torda and Kaylie Garcia will help us dominate on the indoor field.

I know all of the girls will make a big impact on the purple team's victory. This spring is going to be fun, but also a lot of hard work to gear up for next year where we have many goals to accomplish.

Spring Schedule Set

This spring looks to be a great schedule in preparation for the fall. I've always been one to look at spring as an opportunity to improve and work as the first priority, so we always set the schedule with that in mind. This spring brings:

January 31st-Alumni match at TCU
February 7th-Navarro Junior College and Richland Junior College at TCU
February 28th-Miami and Oklahoma in Austin, Texas
March 29th-Texas A&M at College Station
April 4th- Texas Tech at either TCU or Pizza Hut Park

Should be a great schedule and we'll let you know more about the teams as we get closer to the games.

Spring Kicks Off!

It's been a fun week to get the team back on the field and playing. The energy level has been great. As always this time of year their are some cobwebs and some fitness to work out, but the attitude and mentality have been great. Of course being outside and able to play in 80 degree weather certainly helps!

Last Friday the new Women's Professional Soccer (WPS) league held its first draft. It was fun to watch as I had the opportunity to help out the Los Angeles Sol at the west coast combine. It was interesting to see where the different players ended up. It was also exciting as we've got quite a few of our current team members that I have no questions will get professional opportunities.

The league kicks off in LA on March 29 with a game between the Sol and Washington Freedom!

TCU Horned Frog Football Finishes #7 In The Nation

Congratulations to Coach Patterson, his staff, and team on a #7 national ranking for the TCU football team! This was TCU's highest season ending ranking since 1959, and the second time in the past four years that the Frogs have finished in the nation's top 10 at the end of the season. TCU went 11-2 and won the Poinsietta Bowl over previously undefeated Boise St to end the year.

Karoly Recognized by NSCAA

The National Soccer Coaches Association of America and Adidas named Lizzy Karoly to the 2008 Scholar All-South Region Team on Saturday.

Karoly, who collected third-team honors, was a 2008 Mountain West Conference All-Tournament Squad selection, while also being named to the 2008 Second-team All-MWC Team. The junior netted a career-best 11 goals on the season, while also dishing out a career-best seven assists.

Overall, she helped TCU to a 14-4-2 record and season-high national ranking of No. 28.

Earlier this season, Karoly was a first-team CoSIDA/ESPN the Magazine Academic All-District selection.

Frogs Put An End To Boise St's Undefeated Season

Facing their fourth undefeated team ranked in the top 10 this season, the #11 Horned Frogs didn't flinch and handed the previously undefeated #9 Boise St Broncos 17-16 in San Diego at the 2008 Poinsiettia Bowl. What a great night for Coach Patterson, his team, and all of TCU. After falling behind 13-0 early in the game, TCU dominated the rest of the way outgaining Boise St 472 yards to 250 and held the ball for over 36 minutes of the game. The Frogs just wore the Broncos down. Boise St came into the game averagin 39 points and 456 yards a game, but they had not faced a defense like the Frogs who were the #2 rated defense in the nation.

TCU finished the season with an 11-2 record and will certainly have another top 10 finish in the final rankings. With this win, TCU has won 4 straight bowl games, reached 11 wins for the third time in four seasons, and have 41 games in the past four years. One of the best records in the nation. Congrats to Coach Patterson, his staff and team....great job!
