Newest Pics of Jane Justin Fieldhouse

Here are the newest pictures of the Jane Justin Fieldhouse. The construction crews have been taking full advantage of the beautiful weather that we have been having here at TCU and have made considerable progress on the Fieldhouse; which is expected to be done by August 1st. I went for a run this morning and the size of the Fieldhouse is amazing the interior looks brilliant and the archways at the entrance make me wish it was August 22nd and we were beating Texas Southern already in the home opener.

The Colonial has taken over TCU

Every year during this weekend, the PGA hosts The Colonial here in Fort Worth. The Colonial golf course is less than 5 minutes away from campus and things are always busy here during this time. All of the parking lots are full and there are buses taking people back and forth from the tournament all day. With nothing but beautiful sunshine more and more people are coming onto  campus to enjoy the PGA tournament here in Fort Worth. Both Dan and Mark plan on going and hanging out at the course today to enjoy the environment and get some sunshine.

The Great Ball Debate

Since 1970 Adidas has introduced a new superior soccer ball for every World Cup. Over the past 30 years there has always been one constant theme that remains true this year and the new ball; some players like, some do not, and every goalkeeper loathes it. This years ball the ,Jabulani, has been described as the most technological advanced ball ever; Adidas has used players such as Frank Lampard, Kaka, and Peter Cech to help create this masterpiece. However, when the ball is reviewed by the USA players most of them agree with the constant theme of some like it, some do not, and goalkeepers like Marcus Hahnemann really really do not like it.  We should all see what type of problems or cool motions the ball plays in this years World Cup, gifted strikers like Christiano Ronaldo should love it and demonstrate how the ball can really mess with goalkeepers.

Jane Justin Fieldhouse Update

The Jane Justin Fieldhouse has been gaining momentum everyday. Good weather has allowed the construction crews to complete some major tasks, such as: the front columns in the entryway really show how impressive the front of the Fieldhouse is going to look, also the roof has gone up and really creates an overall picture of the building. The "sky bridge" is also nearly complete and brings an intimidating feature to the beautiful Garvey-Rosenthal Stadium.

US Soccer Fitness

There is an international joke that people use to describe USA soccer "when it comes to soccer, Americans have square feet but can run forever." Fitness coach Pierre Barrieu, is the master behind team USA and their top fitness level, he says "people don't realize the work that is needed for the team to be like this. They don't understand that our guys have the mental strength to put themselves through this. There are a lot players around the world who would not want any part of this."

"You can't push the soccer aside; obviously thats still paramount. But we don't have 11 players on Champions League teams like the big countries do. So we have to take care of everything we can control so that when its time to take the field, our bodies our ready to excel at their maximum potential."
Barrieu oversees not only the team's fitness but their meals and weight workouts as well.
There is also an understanding that not every player is capable of the same fitness workouts and results. For example, Landon Donovan, is capable of running a sub five minute mile with minimal effort, however, Clint Dempsey must put out twice the effort to have the same result. Both men were atop of the leaderboard for distance covered at last years Confederations Cup, Donovan ran 36 miles and Dempsey ran 35 miles over the 5 game span.

Garcia Talks About Mexico

Garcia, an Oklahoma City native, appeared in the 80th minute of the match against the United States to receive her first International Cap on March 28 in San Diego, Calif. During the 2009 season, Garcia started nine games for TCU, while also netting four goals. She also dished out three assists on the season.

Talk about your experience of playing with the Mexican National Team against the United States?
"Traveling and playing with the Mexican National Team was an awesome experience. I had so much fun and learned a lot over those three weeks with them. The first game in San Diego we lost, 3-0, but I received my first International Cap and got to play the last 10 minutes of the game. Stepping onto the field and hearing my name called out was a great feeling. The fact that I achieved one of my lifetime goals was amazing. It made my family very proud. I still know I have a long ways to go with this team. Hopefully, I will continue to build myself as a player and be able to receive more international experience. The second game in Salt Lake City was crazy. It snowed 10 inches or more and I couldn't believe the game still went on even though the snow blanketed the field. We lost 1-0 and gave the United States a run for their money. We played really well for having to play in those conditions. I didn't get any playing time in the game, but was able to support my team from the sidelines."

What was going through your head when you were told you were going in?
"I was nervous with excitement. I was ready to go in and play my hardest even though it was only 10 minutes. I was hoping to add a spark to the game and do my best."

What did you learn from playing with the national team?
"I learned to play and think a lot quicker. My teammates really pushed me and so far have helped me become a stronger player. They have also helped me with my Spanish. Hopefully, I will be able to catch on quickly with the additional time."

How do you think that experience will help you this upcoming season?
"This experience will definitely help me with this upcoming season because I have already become a stronger and quicker player from it. Over the summer, I hope to get invited to another camp and play in Puerto Rico for the Central American Games."

What are your individual goals for the upcoming season?
"My goals for the season are to continue to improve as a player and get invited to more Mexican National Team events. Also, I would like to help my team win the conference title and tournament, so we can advance to the NCAA Tournament."

What are the teams goal for this upcoming season?
"The team goals are to win the Mountain West Conference and post-season tournament. We really want to make our first appearance in the NCCA Tournament."

What do you like to do away from the soccer field?
"Away from the field, I like to hangout with my friends and family. I also like to go to movies, take vacations and just relax."

United Boss Predicts USA will Advance

Manchester United manager, Sir Alex Ferguson, predicts that the US will advance to the 2nd round in the upcoming World Cup. He said that the opening game against England will be very difficult, however, if the Americans can maintain their composure they can easily go on to beat Slovenia and Algeria to reach the knockout phase of the tournament.

"They've proved themselves in previous World Cups. With Donovan and Dempsey, they've got some experience. They have been there before. It's not as if this is new to them. So I don't think they will be overawed by anything or the atmosphere of the World Cup or the importance of the World Cup or the intensity. I think it will be easy for them."

Final Weekend of the Premiership

This is the final weekend of the English Barclay's Premiership. After 37 games spanning from August to May the league champions will be crowned this weekend with everything on the line in the last round of games. Katie Taylor's favorite club Chelsea have a 1 point lead on Mark's favorite club Manchester United for the league title. Chelsea our at home versus Wigan Athletic and look to gain the crown back from defending champions United; if Chelsea wins they automatically win the league. Manchester United is away at Stoke City and need a win, plus a Chelsea loss or tie to retain the league title for the 4th year in a row. All of the games are being played at 10AM Central Time here in the states, in an effort to minimize a team knowing their destination and not playing to their full potential.
Come on United!!

TCU recognized as a "Top Green School" in Princeton Review

TCU is one of the country’s most environmentally-responsible colleges according to The Princeton Review.  The nationally-known education services company selected TCU inclusion in a unique resource it has created for college applicants - “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 286 Green Colleges.” TCU is one of three Texas universities included in the list. A list of TCU's green initiatives can be found on its website

Developed by The Princeton Review in partnership with the
U.S. Green Building Council, the “Guide to 286 Green Colleges” is the first, free comprehensive guidebook focused solely on institutions of higher education who have demonstrated an above average commitment to sustainability in terms of campus infrastructure, activities and initiatives.

Just in time for the 40th Anniversary of Earth Day (April 22nd), the Guide – which is based on a survey of hundreds of colleges nationwide – profiles the nation’s most environmentally-responsible campuses. From solar panel study rooms to the percentage of budget spent on local/organic food, “The Princeton Review’s Guide to 286 Green Colleges” looks at an institution’s commitment to building certification using USGBC’s LEED green building certification program; environmental literacy programs; formal sustainability committees; use of renewable energy resources; recycling and conservation programs, and much more.
