Michelle Nguyen is one of four TCU student athletes named a 2009 Arthur Ashe Sport Scholar. Michelle was named to the third team accolades. Issues in Higher Education established the Arthur Ashe Jr Sports Scholars Award in 1992 to honor undergraduate students of color who excel both academically and athletically. The awards were inspirted by tennis legend Arthur Ashe Jr's commitment to education, as well as his love for the game of tennis. In addition to their athletic ability, Arthur Ashe Jr Sports Scholars must exhibit academic excellence and community activism.
Michelle earned her second straight Arthur Ashe Jr Sports Scholar Award while playing in 19 matches in 2008, starting in four of them. She collected three goals on the season to go along with six assists, helping to direct a TCU offense that ended the season ranked #18 in the nation in scoring.
Congratulations Michelle! This is a well deserved honor!
